North Carolina Traffic Tickets: Points, Insurance, Court Dates - Oh My!

North Carolina Traffic Ticket Citation

Are you worried about having points added to your driver’s license? Can’t afford your insurance premium to increase? Not able to attend your court date?

Whether you are located locally or were just passing through Northeastern North Carolina, it can make a huge difference with the disposition of your traffic ticket to have the assistance of a North Carolina licensed attorney. Here at WYLF, we have attorneys who are able to assist you with your traffic citations. Serving North Carolina’s First Judicial District, our attorneys are able to assist you with your traffic ticket(s) in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties.

Being convicted of a traffic violation in North Carolina could result in you having points added to your driver’s license and/or your auto insurance. The number of points assigned to your driving record depends on the type of traffic citation you are issued. This is important considering the potential consequences you could face when pleading guilty and quickly paying off your speeding ticket. In North Carolina, your license can be suspended if you receive (1) two convictions of speeding over 55 mph within a period of 12 months; (2) a conviction of speeding over 55 mph and a conviction of reckless driving within a period of 12 months; or (3) a conviction of willful racing with another vehicle.

Alternatively, auto insurance companies may also add points to your record. These points are separate from the DMV’s driver’s license points. North Carolina has instituted a Safe Driver Incentive Plan, which is designed to give drivers a financial incentive to practice safe driving habits. The amount of points added to your insurance could increase your insurance rates. Having the assistance of an attorney to advocate for you in the disposition of your traffic citation could help you avoid any points being added to your driving record and/or insurance.
