NC Court of Appeals Extends Domestic Violence Protections to Same Sex Couples

It may seem shocking, but until December 31, 2020, North Carolina Domestic Violence law was limited to heterosexual couples. (See N.C.G.S. Chapter 50B). In a recent decision, published by the NC Court of Appeals on New Years Eve, domestic violence protections are now afforded to same sex couples. You can read the decision here: https://appellate.nccourts.org/opinions/?c=2&pdf=38184

Domestic violence certainly isn't an issue limited to heterosexual relationships and, unfortunately, has been on the rise during CoVid-19 quarantines and shut downs.
